St John the Baptist National School is a co-educational primary school under the Patronage of the Church of Ireland. It was founded in 1880. In 2012 it undertook major renovations and on 22nd November 2013 Ruairí Quinn TD, Minister for Education and Skills, officially opened a new 6 classroom extension.
We currently have 220 pupils attending, an administrative principal, eight class teachers, 4 full-time learning support/resource teachers and a special needs assistant.
Sport plays an important part in the school's extra-curricular activities and the pupils are involved in hockey, rugby, soccer, athletics and swimming. Much of the coaching is done by parents and teachers on a voluntary basis and matches are organised for Saturday mornings. Also very popular is a weekly cookery class for sixth class and the Music Club.
Children also enjoy the weekly drama class, taught by our dedicated visiting drama teacher. Our Art and Craft programme exposes the children to a variety of traditional and contemporary mediums allowing for greater diversity. Children's talents in these areas are displayed in regular productions and exhibitions.
